CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Caring for candles with wooden wicks requires some specific attention to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Here are the key care instructions for maintaining your candles.

1. PROPER WICK TRIMMING

  • Trim the Wick Before Lighting: Wooden wicks should be trimmed to about 1/8–1/4 inch before lighting. This helps prevent excessive flickering and uneven burning, ensuring a smooth and even flame. If the wick is too long, it can cause the candle to burn too quickly or create excessive smoke.

  • Keep the Wick Clean: After each burn, check the wick for any burnt debris or charred parts. If there’s any buildup, carefully trim or brush it off. This prevents the wick from becoming too thick and ensures the candle burns evenly.

2. FIRST BURN: LET IT BURN LONG ENOUGH

  • Allow Full Melt Pool: On the first burn, let the candle burn long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container. This helps prevent tunneling (where the center of the candle burns down faster than the edges), ensuring a more even burn on subsequent uses. The general recommendation is to let the candle burn for 2–4 hours on the first use.

3. AVOID DRAFTS

  • Keep Away from Wind & Drafts: Wooden wicks tend to flicker and burn unevenly when exposed to drafts. Avoid placing your candle near open windows, vents, or fans, as this can disrupt the flame and reduce burn quality.

4. BURN TIME LIMITS

  • Burn for 3–4 Hours at a Time: To prevent overheating and to extend the life of your candle, avoid burning it for more than 3–4 hours at a time. This also ensures the candle’s surface melts evenly and maintains a balanced burn.

5. EXTINGUISHING THE CANDLE

  • Use a Candle Snuffer or Blow Gently: To safely extinguish the candle, it’s best to use a candle snuffer. This will prevent any hot wax from splattering and can help prevent the wick from smoking excessively. If you blow out the candle, be gentle to avoid splattering or excessive smoke.

6. STORING YOUR CANDLE

  • Keep in a Cool, Dry Place: When not in use, store your coconut soy wax candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. This helps preserve the integrity of the wax and fragrance oils, preventing melting or fading.

  • Keep Lid On (If Applicable): If your candle comes with a lid, store it with the lid on to protect the wax from dust and debris, as well as to help preserve the fragrance.

7. BURNING EVENLY

  • Ensure the Wick Is Centered: Always check to ensure the wick is centered and upright before lighting. A crooked wick can cause uneven burning and may result in the candle burning faster on one side.

8. RE-LIGHTING AND EXTRINGUISHING

  • Check the Wick: If the wick becomes too short or the flame is difficult to maintain, trim the wick back to around 1/8 inch before re-lighting it. Also, if the wick produces too much smoke or flickers excessively, it may need trimming to maintain optimal performance.

9. MONITOR FOR SOOT BUILDUP

  • Clean the Wick Area: If you notice any soot or black residue building up near the wick or on the container, gently clean it off. This helps maintain the candle’s appearance and ensures the wick is able to burn properly.

By following these care instructions, you can help ensure that your coconut soy wax candle with a wooden wick burns cleanly, evenly, and safely, providing you with a long-lasting and pleasant experience.
